Ceramic blanket

Ceramic blanket is a type of ceramic insulation that is woven in the form of an integrated blanket. Ceramic blanket is made of pure materials melted at very high temperature and spun ceramic fiber with double-sided needling process and is used in high temperature insulation. Ceramic blanket is generally divided into three grades of commercial standard, high purity and zirconia. The common feature of all three types is light weight and high thermal efficiency, low heat storage, high resistance to thermal shock and corrosion in acidic and alkaline environments

Physical characteristics of ceramic blanket

Ceramic blanket with various thicknesses and densities has a high heat tolerance of about 1260 degrees Celsius (2300 degrees Fahrenheit), tensile strength of 40 to 120 kilopascals

Ceramic blanket production process

Kaloen, alumina and silica are combined in the form of powder and after determining the ratio and weight of the ingredients, they are put into the furnace. After melting, the molten material is converted into droplets with compressed air technology, then, by circulating in a centrifuge under centrifugal force, it is converted into fibers. The length of the obtained fibers is between 100-300 mm and its diameter is 3-5 microns. These fibers are woven together layer by layer by the physical method of needling. Needlework is a method of woven fabric directly from the fibers, which are placed together like a spider’s web by moving the needle mechanically. The same weaving method leads to the strength and low heat absorption and flexibility of this material

In another method of producing ceramic blanket, which is mostly used to produce polycrystalline blanket, chemical methods are used to combine raw materials. These blankets have a high production cost, but with their higher thermal resistance, they are used for higher thermal conditions in the oil and gas and aerospace industries
